bullet What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of oral antipsychotic medication versus a long-acting antipsychotic medication on the course of schizophrenia.  We will compare healthy individuals from the community with patients who have schizophrenia. Healthy individuals from the community will not receive psychiatric medication or treatment.

bullet Who can participate? What will happen in the study?
We are looking for healthy volunteers between the ages of 20 and 25:

  • An interview (2 hours) that will include questions related to personal life experiences and emotional well-being. 

  • MRI brain scan (approx 1 hour), repeated 5-6 more times over the next 18 months. 

bullet Do participants receive compensation?
$93 for the first visit, and if eligible, $93 for each of the 5 MRI visits for a total of $558 over 18 months.
